School Board Recognizes Teachers of the Year and Student Athletes

At the Monday, April 7 Study Session, the Board of Education honored the Berkley Schools teachers of the year. In addition, the Board recognized Boys Middle School swim team members for qualifying for states. Details of both recognitions are below.

Teachers of the Year

  • Berkley Building Blocks: Stephani Fooy, GSRP Half-Day Preschool
  • Angell: Angie Huffer, 2nd Grade
  • Burton: Lauren Rentrop, 5th Grade
  • Norup Elementary: Lindsay Schindler, 2nd Grade
  • Pattengill: Kenna Parker, 4th Grade
  • Rogers: Terri Lubanski, Physical Education. Terri is also the Berkley Schools Elementary Teacher of the Year and will be honored at an Oakland Schools event in May.
  • Anderson: Kathy Milia, 7th Grade Mathematics. Kathy is also the Berkley Schools Middle School Teacher of the Year and will be honored at an Oakland Schools event in May.
  • Norup Middle: Claire Townsend, 8th Grade ELA & French
  • BHS: Liz Meinhart, Mathematics. Liz is also the Berkley Schools High School Teacher of the Year and will be honored at an Oakland Schools event in May.

The following students were honored for earning qualifying times for the Middle School State Boys State Meet.

Individual Qualifications

Colby Sternicki, 7th Grade, AMS: 100-Yard Backstroke

Owen Black, 6th Grade, Norup: 50-Yard Butterfly

Tolan Cassey, 8th Grade, AMS: 50-Yard Freestyle

Robbie Phillips, 7th Grade, AMS: 100-Yard IM, 200-Yard Freestyle, 100-Yard Freestyle

Tommie Wilhoit, 8th Grade, AMS: 200-Yard Freestyle

Relay Qualification

200-Yard Medley Relay Team: Colby Sternicki, Alec Guyer, Owen Black, Tolan Cassey

100-Yard Freestyle Relay Team Qualifiers: Alec Guyer, Owen Black, Robbie Phillips, Liam Shaw-Draves, Tommie Wilhoit
