Burton Kicks Off Burtonbery!

On November 18, Burton 4th and 5th grade students gathered in the media center to kick off Burtonbery. Burtonbery is modeled after the Newbery Award for Best Children's Literature. Throughout most of the school year, students have the option to read 20 books, all contenders for the coveted Burtonbery medal.

Burton Media Specialist Rachel Smith selected the 20 Burtonbery books and revealed the titles to the students at the kick-off assembly. Students have until March to read them. If students read at least 5 books, they will vote in a March-Madness style bracket for their favorites. If students read at least 10 books, they can also go to a committee meeting to select the final winner. At the final committee meeting, students will discuss their favorite book with their groups, and do their best to persuade the committee to vote with them.
