Save the Date for the Berkley Schools Job Fair

On Tuesday, November 2, the Berkley School District is hosting a job fair open to the public. From 12-6 pm, at the Berkley Schools Administrative Offices building, 14501 Talbot, Oak Park, MI, future employees will have the opportunity to interview on site and receive conditional offers pending background checks. The District is hiring custodians, child care assistants, latchkey assistants, permanent building substitute teachers, paraeducators and food service workers. Part time and full time positions are available!

Berkley Schools will pay a $500 bonus after 60 work days to anyone who is hired at the Job Fair. In addition, the District is paying for fingerprinting for all employees who are offered a position.

Angell PTA Hosts Trunk or Treat
Angell PTA organized a Trunk or Treat for families to celebrate the Halloween season. Angell families gathered at the Berkley Community Center on October 22, 2021, to parade around the parking lot collecting treats at different decorated vehicles. Apple cider and donuts were also provided by the PTA.

Norup Families Enjoy Halloween Drive-Thru Trunk or Treat

Norup PTA organized a drive-thru Trunk or Treat for families to celebrate the Halloween season. There were stations set up throughout the parking lot. These stations included decorated silhouettes with characters such as the ghostbusters and skeletons. A DJ played festive songs as cars drove through. Cider and donuts were available at the end for families to enjoy. 

Berkley Building Blocks Celebrates Halloween at Trunk or Treat

Berkley Building Blocks (BBB) families gathered for a Trunk or Treat on October 28, 2021. BBB staff decorated their vehicles in various themes such as Paw Patrol, Mario Kart, day at the beach and more! This year’s Trunk or Treat was a great opportunity for students to showcase their costumes and connect with friends.

Burton Students Rally During Rival Day 

Burton students dressed in their favorite team’s colors during Rival Day on October 28, 2021. The Blue Jays showed support ahead of this weekend’s big football game, Michigan vs. Michigan State. Classmates discussed the final score and engaged in friendly banter while dressed up to support their favorite team. 

Rogers Community Displays Team Colors During Spirit Day

With the University of Michigan football team facing off against Michigan State University this weekend, Rogers students had the opportunity to show who they are cheering for during Spirit Day. Racoons could wear Maize and Blue or Green and White. Friendly rivalries were formed between classmates through cheers and rival fun. 

Pattengill Students Enjoy Halloween Parade and Parties 

Pattengill students celebrated Halloween on October 29, 2021, with classroom parties and an indoor parade. All students were able to show off their costumes while parading through the hallway and gym. After the parade, Pattengill staff had various activities planned such as spooky crafts, music and snacks for each classroom.

Burton Students Enjoy Halloween Parade

The weather didn’t cooperate with hosting the annual Halloween parade outside, but Burton students made the most of an inside parade! The BHS Marching Band played Halloween-themed songs in the gym while the students walked through the hallways to show off their costumes to their classmates. The band was also dressed up and provided a fun atmosphere for the parade. Enjoy these photos from the morning.

Norup Halloween Fun

On Thursday, October 29, Norup elementary students enjoyed a Halloween parade around their school. Students showed off their costumes to fellow elementary students as well as their middle school friends. Costumes spotted included princesses, Marvel characters, fire and police officers, inflatable dinosaurs and more!

Rogers Halloween Parade with a Fun Run Prize

Rogers students paraded inside their building on Friday, October 29. Their plans for an outside Halloween parade and parading through the Oxford Towers was rained out, but fun was still had. Before students took off on their parade route, a small group of students mummified Principal Beth Meacham as a Fun(d) Run prize. Mrs. Meacham then doubled up on the Fun(d) Run prizes, and also spent time on a tricycle in the gym while students walked past in their costumes. Both the mummification and tricycle were rewards for the student body for raising record breaking numbers during their annual Fun(d) Run.

Angell Community Displays Halloween Spirit 

Halloween arrived at Angell Elementary on October 29, 2021! The day kicked off with an indoor parade. Classmates greeted each other while dressed as their favorite characters. After the parade, the students participated in spooky arts and crafts, music, dancing and activities. 

Halloween Assembly at Anderson Middle School

Anderson Middle School held its annual Halloween assembly on October 29, 2021. Principal Mike Ross kicked off the event with a greeting and welcomed the students back in person after being unable to host the event the past couple of school years. Then students competed by grade level in various games such as mummy wrap and relay races. The assembly concluded with a costume contest and Spirit week winners announced. 

Berkley Building Blocks Celebrates Halloween

Students at Berkley Building Blocks celebrated Halloween on Friday, October 29. Students and staff had the option to participate in a pajama day while some teachers hosted class parties with music and treats!

Save the Date for the BHS Fall Play

Berkley High School’s BeDrama is proud to announce a return to the BHS stage! This fall, students will present the play All In The Timing: a collection of six one-act plays by David Ives. Performances will take place in the BHS Auditorium from November 18-20, 2021, at 7 pm.

BHS Student Leadership Hosts Cider & Donut Sale

The Berkley High School Student Leadership class is hosting a Cider and Donut sale to benefit Prom. All orders are due on October 31. Order online today and pick up items on November 4, 2021 from 3:30-5:30 pm in the BHS circle drive.

Downtown BOO!kley Wraps Up this Weekend

On Saturday, October 30, between 12-3 pm, over 60 downtown Berkley retailers are hosting a Trick or Treat Stroll, distributing candy and prizes. From 2-6 pm, Downtown Berkley is also hosting a Monster Mash at the corner of Dorothea and Coolidge. The Monster Mash is a street party featuring games, crafts, photo opportunities, music, and more free family fun. In addition, the first ever Woodward Scream Cruise (a parade of hearses and more festive rides) will roll down Coolidge during the Monster Mash.

This is the last weekend for the BOO!KLEY Scavenger Hunt as well. Visit the BOO!kley Nights website, or on any of the BOO!KLEY Nights posters throughout the community, to open the ActionBound scavenger hunt app.

Berkley High School Presents HBCU Night

Berkley High School presents Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU) Night on Tuesday, November 9, 2021. Students will learn about the educational opportunities and the unique college experience of Historically Black Colleges & Universities. The night will start with an HBCU College Showcase in the BHS Library Media Center (2nd floor), followed by a Q & A session with an HBCU Alumni Panel.

Evening schedule

  • 6-6:30 PM: HBCU College Showcase
  • 6:30-7:30 PM: Q&A with HBCU Alumni Panel

Saturdays for Success - Registration Now Open

The Berkley African American Parent Network (BAAPN), in partnership with the Berkley School District, sponsors the Saturdays for Success (S4S) program. The purpose of S4S is to help all Berkley students have a successful academic experience by providing educational opportunities in literacy and math, and developing study skills that will ensure long term success.

What happens at Saturdays for Success?

  • Saturday tutoring, homework help and small group work for students in grades 6-12 for math and language arts
  • Money Management class for students in grades 6-12
  • National Honor Society High School student volunteers available to assist

When are the S4S Sessions?

  • October 9, 16, 23, 30 & November 6, 13
  • 9:30-11:00 am

Cost

The cost of the program is $20 per child (fee covers all 6 sessions). If your family is eligible for free and/or reduced lunch benefits the cost is $10 per child.

Open Hands Food Pantry Distribution for Families

Open Hands Food Pantry in Royal Oak offers a mobile drive-through pantry distribution every week.

If you are in need of food assistance, visit the Open Hands Food Pantry at St. John's Episcopal Church, (26998 Woodward Ave., Royal Oak, corner of 11 Mile and Woodward - enter at 11 Mile) on Saturdays from 9-11 am.

For the safety of the mobile pantry guests and our volunteers, food will be placed in the trunk / back hatch of a vehicle.
