Scott Francis, Superintendent

Scott Francis was named Berkley Schools Superintendent in the Spring of 2021, and assumed this role on July 1, 2021.

Inside of his first message to the community, Superintendent Francis said:

Seventeen years ago, one of the best decisions my wife and I made was moving to the Berkley Schools community. We have three children, and next school year we will have a child at three different levels in the district - elementary, middle school, and a freshman at BHS. We have been thrilled with the education, opportunities, and love our children have received from the Berkley staff.

I have also had the fortune of working as an administrator in the Berkley School District for the past seven years, first as an elementary principal at Pattengill for three years and as the Director of Teaching, Learning, and Technology for the past four years. Prior to my time in Berkley, I spent 15 years in the classroom as a special education teacher and a general education classroom teacher at the elementary and middle school levels in two nearby districts.

A crucial part of my next steps will focus on building relationships with staff, families, and community members throughout the summer. The goal of the conversations and work will be centered around what is best for our students and staff, and how we can create a shared vision for the future of Berkley Schools.

I am incredibly proud of our District, and I am continually encouraged and inspired by our students, educators, and families. Berkley Schools is a special place, and I look forward to what the future holds for all of us.

From July 2017 to June 2021, Scott Francis was the of Director of Teaching, Learning and Technology for the Berkley Schools.

Prior to becoming Director of Teaching, Learning and Technology, Mr. Francis was Principal at Pattengill Elementary from 2014-2017. While at Pattengill, Mr. Francis established strong systems to support students during and after school. Under his leadership, Pattengill received a 2015 National Blue Ribbon School award, embarked on a deeper connection to the Making Thinking Visible teaching practices for all staff and made a commitment to infuse instructional technology into classroom practices.

Prior to his work as Principal at Pattengill, Mr. Francis was an accomplished teacher at both the elementary and middle school levels in the Troy and Brandon School Districts for 16 years.
